The gently rolling hills, lush forests and sparkling waters disguise a land that has endured the effects of continental glaciers and massive mineral extraction. Each year over one million boaters, hikers, bikers and swimmers visit the 16,725-acre park, yet never realize that many people helped restore the park from prior coal mining and oil and gas drilling practices. Today, the park is an outstanding example of environmental engineering achievement.

This was so fun and interesting! We started off in a pavilion learning all about wood duck nesting boxes and how to check them from the very knowledgeable Russ. Then we split off into teams of boaters and kayakers to scout out there locations. We had a great time on the water and got up close to many wood duck boxes as well as sighting turtles, an osprey, and a heron!
Everyone was helpful and the hiking leader had a great pace.
Terrific class and highly recommended for even those who have kayaked before. Emily and Ivy were great instructors...thanks very much for everything!
Thank you so much Emily & Ivy. Fantastic instruction and a super passion for the outdoors. keith
