DCNR Calendar of Events

Canceled -- World Frog Day

Amid concerns about the potential spread of COVID-19, all public programs, events, and trainings in state parks and forests are canceled through April 30. Except for the parks and forests that have been announced as closed, state park and forest facilities remain open.

Frogs (like all amphibians) are tremendously important for controlling insect pests and in turn serve as building blocks in many food chains. While amphibians were the first vertebrate animals to spead across terrestrial habitats of our planet with their moist permeable skin they remain tied to clean water for reproduction and their very survival. Today many of these beloved creatures are in serious trouble due to habitat loss, pollution, invasive species, fungi and diseases. Pennsylvania is home to numerous amphibians species including frogs, toads, newts and salamanders that breed in fish free vernal pools. Join your DCNR Park Naturalist for a trailside exhibit program on our vanishing amphibian friends, their natural history histories and what we can do to help them. Registration not required.
