Women in the Wild - First Day Hike

344 Strickersville Road, Landenberg, PA

This hike will take us into the southern part of Big Elk Creek State Park along some tributaries and eventually the main branch of Big Elk Creek.  The trails will be natural surface with roots and rock.  The beginning section does contain a longer, gradual hill (traversing down at the beginning and up on the return) and there is a second incline that is a little steep and short.  This route is an out and back trail that will be about 3 miles long.

Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing.  There is no water available at this location, so please bring a water bottle.  There is one port-a-potty available at the starting/ending location.

Starting Location: Strickersville Rd. Parking Lot (344 Strickersville Road, Landenberg, PA 19350)

Women in the Wild is a monthly series of outdoor programs held at state parks throughout the Southeast. Each month, there will be an opportunity to get outdoors, learn a new skill, and have fun in a relaxed, friendly, and affirming environment. Are you drawn to the outdoors and interested in exploring new hobbies and wilderness skills, but you’re not enthusiastic about entering a hyper-masculine space to do so? This series is designed especially for you! Choose from activities like archery, paddleboarding, rock climbing, and birdwatching. Check out the event at your closest state park, or follow Women in the Wild to a new park each month. We’re excited to spend the year with you trying new things!

Not sure if this series is right for you? Contact ssato@pa.gov with any questions!
