Winter Trees of Little Buffalo - Self-guided Hike
1579 State Park Road, Newport, PA 17074-9428
Would you like to learn about some of the trees in your forest? Take our self-guided tree hike to be introduced to 10 common trees along the Mill Race Trail.
Self-guided hike brochures will be available at the kiosk outside of the park office as well as the kiosk at the restroom in the Shoaff's Mill Area of the park, next to where the trail starts. This restroom is located next to the stage and pavilion. Pick up a guide and begin your walk by the playground. Each of the 10 trees you will learn will have a post next to them describing how to ID the tree and what its uses are for both humans and animals. In your brochure, answer the questions based on the information you learn at each stop.
After the first 7 trees, you will hike the mill race in search of trees with orange numbered ribbons that will be your quiz trees. Once you reach the mill, you will be introduced to the last 3 trees. If you complete your brochure, you can check in with the office or email us your answers to receive a prize! Prizes will depend on availability at the time.
Grab a copy of the brochure outside the park office, by the restroom in the East area, or download your own copy of the brochure here --> http://elibrary.dcnr.pa.gov/GetDocument?docId=3501248&DocName=LITB_WinterTreeIDWalk.pdf
