Wildflowers of Hell’s Hollow
Experience the beauty of McConnells Mill State Park with a walk in the lovely Hell’s Hollow valley. Despite the name, it is one of the most charming places to experience the wildflowers in the park. We will identify and discuss the unique natural history of some of the spring wildflowers along Hell Run, perhaps trillium, wild phlox, trout lily, hepatica, and others. Allow 15 minutes to get to Hells Hollow if coming from the old mill through the covered bridge. Join park staff for a mile stroll on an easy trail starting at the Hell’s Hollow parking lot, mostly level, with an optional staircase to view the waterfall at the end. Dress for the weather, bring your own water, snack. Some rocks may be slick, wear sturdy footwear. From the west, the Hell’s Hollow parking lot on Shaffer Road is about four miles south of the Sheetz on 422 & 388.
