Trail Crew Volunteer Orientation

Are you looking to get outdoors and give back to the park? Nolde Forest is looking for volunteers to help maintain our trail system in the park.

This past spring has boasted the highest visitation numbers ever for Nolde Forest. We are thrilled for all the new explorers in the park and hope to keep welcoming new visitors. But higher visitation means more wear and tear on our trails and that means more work for our limited staff and amazing volunteers – more work than they can keep up with. That is where you come in!

There are two options to help maintain trails in the park: Second Saturday Trail Crew and our new Adopt a Trail program. Second Saturday Trail Crew is a group of individuals who meet once a month to work on trail cleanup and maintenance under the direction of park staff. Adopt a Trail is for a small group/family who want to commit to walking a trail once a month (or more) and cleaning up litter, cutting back growth, and other trail maintenance projects. Adopt a Trail groups will coordinate with park staff to gain access to tools, but they do not need to meet on a specific day and will instead work in a more independent manner (without direct supervision from Park Staff).

If think you are interested in either option we are hosting a Trail Crew Orientation Day to help introduce you to the staff and volunteer leaders who run the programs.  Plus, you will learn the best practices for Nolde Forest Trails, such as cleaning out water bars and cutting back overgrowth along the trails.

This orientation will be hands on, outdoors, and will be held rain or shine. Due to the physical nature of trail work it is for volunteers ages 12 and up.

Because of Covid restrictions we must limit the amount of participation, so registration is necessary to claim your spot (every person who attends must register). You will receive detailed instructions in your email when you register. Masks will be required.

We hope you can attend the orientation to learn about trail work here at Nolde Forest.
