DESCRIPTION:Washington Crossing Historic Park’s 2019 Evening with the Cur
 ator series continues on Sunday\, July 14 at 1:30 PM with a free guided to
 ur of the Thompson-Neely House.\n\nPark curator Kimberly McCarty will lead
  a guided tour of the house\, which served as a temporary regimental army 
 hospital during Washington’s winter campaign of 1776/1777. Ill and injur
 ed soldiers were brought to this home of the Thompson and Neely families f
 or medical treatment and recovery.\n\nCapacity is limited to the first 10 
 registrants. Registration opens June 1 and closes July 12 or when capacity
  is reached. To register\, please call the Visitor Center at 215-493-4076.
 \n\nA young officer from Virginia named James Monroe\, who was seriously i
 njured during the First Battle of Trenton\, convalesced at this site. In 1
 817\, he became the fifth president of the United States.\n\nWounded with 
 Monroe was William Washington\, a distant cousin of the commander-in-chief
 . He too recovered at this location. Captain James Moore of the New York A
 rtillery died here of camp fever on Christmas day and is buried on the pro
 perty (in what is now the Soldiers Graves area)\, along with other men who
  died either in the encampment or battle.
