     For any fans of Tolkien, writing, worldbuilding, and nature: all around us, our woodlands and waterways are waking up after another icy winter.  Trees are beginning to bloom, fungi in all fun forms and colors are erupting from the bark, and birds are returning from sometimes thousands of miles away.  Join a state park naturalist for a hike as we discuss signs of spring, their presence in the works of Tolkien and other fairytales, and the science behind them.

     For this hike, we will be covering roughly 3 miles of rocky, uneven, and sometimes steep terrain.  Please dress in layers for the spring weather and wear boots/shoes appropriate for hiking.  Be sure to bring water and any snacks you may want.
