Whether it’s the Mines of Moria or the rocky hills of Pennsylvania, rocks and lichen are all around us. Join a state park naturalist as we talk about geology and the role it plays for local lichens, as well as how real-world natural processes inspired the world-building of the great writer J.R.R. Tolkien.
This walk will be roughly 3 miles in length on rocky, uneven terrain and along steep slopes at different points. Please dress in layers for the colder weather and bring water. Leave pets at home for this trek. Limited microspikes and trekking poles will be available in the case of ice on the trail. The program will be postponed or cancelled in the case of inclement weather.
