Smokey Bear's Birthday: Bears of the World Exhibit
1023 Sycamore Mills Rd., Media, PA 19063-4398
Celebrate Smokey Bear's birthday by joining your DCNR Park Naturalist for a special exhibit along the Multi-Use Trail about bears of the world. Learn about wildfire prevention and bear safety tips. Smokey was actually found as an orphaned cub on August 9, 1944 during a wildfire in the Lincoln National Forest and adopted as our national fire prevention mascot. Discover how bears fit in the ecosystem as both predators and scavengers. Most bear species are in trouble from habitat loss and poaching exploitation for traditional folk medicines. Explore the diversity of bears found around the world, including Pennsylvania's own American Black Bear, while taking a close up look at skulls, tracks, scat, models and photos of these magnificent animals. Registration not required.
