Summer Nature Journaling

Looking for a way to get out of the house and see the forest in a new way? Join park staff at this weekly event to learn and practice the skills needed to start and maintain your own nature journal.

Nature Journals are not about artistic skills, but instead are a tool to help deepen observational skills, increase focus, and deepen your scientific mind. And they are a tool for all ages, making nature journaling a great family-friendly activity.

Each week, we will observe social distancing and find a place to sit quietly in the forest to, watch, listen, explore, and observe. Weekly prompts and journaling activities will help us grow our skills while still allowing for free exploration. Feel free to come to one, some, or all of our sessions (but please sign up for each one to help limit numbers).

Program is suitable for children with adult supervision, but this is not a specific children's program. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Please register everyone in your family or group who will attend to help us keep track of available spots.

Important Information:

  • program participation is limited so registration is required to participate (click the green box to register).
  • participants must bring their own notebooks  - notebooks will not be provided. Very limited drawing supplies will be available but you are welcome to bring your own to reduce contact (supplies do not need to be fancy, lined paper notebooks and a pencil will do!)
  • when we spread out to journal, you will not need to wear your mask, but participants will need a mask handy for face to face interactions with park staff and if we move indoors for weather.
  • Sessions are rain or shine. In severe weather we will explore nature objects indoors and masks will be required.
  • Wear clothes that can get a little dirty!
