Stream Study

1579 State Park Road, Newport, PA 17074-9428

Free Event

Have you ever wondered who lives in your stream? A huge variety of creatures live among the rocks, from insects and crawdads to salamanders and fish. We will get into the stream and learn about the incredible macroinvertebrates that call it home and how scientists use these creatures to determine the health of the stream.

We will provide nets, strainers, and containers to view the creatures we find. You may bring your own equipment, but please make sure it is thoroughly cleaned and dried to prevent the spread of invasives. All creatures will be released unharmed after the program. Boots are recommended as the water is very cold, but water shoes are acceptable. No need to register. Equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis. We will meet at the stream beside the Playground in the Shoaff's Mill area of the park.
