Spillway Observations

Since the construction of the Keystone dam in 1909, the spillway has been the point where water flows beyond the lake, past the dam, and back into McCune Run. In that time, it has become it's own ecological community, a habitat to a variety of fish, amphibians, macroinvertebrates, and more.

Join the park naturalist and staff for an afternoon of exploration of life in the spillway. You'll have an opportunity to try out various observation tools for viewing the variety of creatures that call it home. Grab a viewing bucket to watch the fish in the vegetation. Get algae samples to view under a microscope. Or go old school with a net and a bucket!

Supplies are limited so registration is required. Families can register together and share tools.

Questions can be directed to Jean at jkeene@pa.gov.
