DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Smokey Bear's birthday (rescued as an orphaned cub in
a forest fire on August 9\, 1944) by joining your DCNR Park Naturalist fo
r a special hands on exhibit along the Multi-Use Trail about bears of the
world. Learn about wildfire prevention and bear safety tips. Discover how
bears fit in the ecosystem as both predators and scavengers. Most bear sp
ecies are in trouble from habitat loss and poaching exploitation for tradi
tional folk medicines. Explore the diversity of bears found around the wor
ld\, including Pennsylvania's own American Black Bear\, while taking a clo
se up look at skulls\, tracks\, scat\, models and photos of these magnific
 ent animals. Registration not required.
