Smartphone Naturalist: Birding with Merlin

We live in the future! We may not have flying cars but we do have a world of information at our fingertips... if only we know how to use those resources and apps on our phones.

During this program geared for ages teen to adult, you will join park staff for a birding hike. Along the way, you will learn how to utilize the CornelLab birding app Merlin to help you be a better birder! We will focus on binocular usage basics, birding field marks, and how to use the app to identify your bird.

Participants should bring their own binoculars and smartphone with the Merlin app already downloaded and set up (the service is not always good in the forest).

The app is FREE and can be downloaded here: https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/download/

(In the event of poor weather, we will forgo the hike, and move indoors for a shorter inside lesson on how to use the app)

Due to Covid19 mitigation efforts, spaces for this event are limited and registration is required for ALL participants (click the green box to register). Masks will be required for the entirety of the program (including the hike). Nolde staff will not be able to supply any birding gear, so please be sure your bring your own supplies.
