Silver Sciences: Forest Inquiry
2951 Prospect Rd., Slippery Rock, PA 16057-5023
This is a two part series, which invites seniors to learn about the forest by choosing their own investigation.
Day 1 (August 23)- Visit the forest to experience the plants and animals that call this area home and to make observations in this ecosystem. Learn about different tools and testing methods available to investigate the forest and conclude by writing questions (drawn from your own curiosities about the forest) that can be answered on Day Two by completing an investigation.
Day 2 (August 30)- Starting with your individual question, form a hypothesis (or best guess to the outcome) and then complete an investigation, collecting data along the way to ultimately answer your question and determine if your hypothesis was supported or not. (Was your guess correct?)
Attendance of both days is required to participate in this program.
The Silver Sciences Series is designed for active seniors who enjoy outdoor activities and wish to expand their science and nature knowledge.
Activities will be adapted to lessen the need to stoop or bend but will require the ability to walk over uneven surfaces and terrain for distances of up to a half mile at a time. All equipment will be provided.
This program is FREE but pre-registration is required no later than August 18th. Register by clicking the green button to the right or by calling the Center at 724-794-6011.
