Shoaff's Mill Tours

1579 State Park Road, Newport, PA 17074-9428

Free Event

Shoaff's Mill is a 19th century operational grist mill that is open for tours every Saturday & Sunday from May through the Apple Festival in October. Originally built around 1840 to serve the Juniata iron furnace community, this mill provided the surrounding region with cornmeal, flour, and various animal feeds. Come and see the 32 foot Fitz waterwheel turn as it has for over 100 years and check out a variety of milling tools and machinery.

The mill will also be open during Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, and is available to groups for private tours. For closures, changes in Mill operating times, or special events like corn grinding demonstrations, check our Facebook page or contact the park office. Sudden closures may not be posted on this page.

Social distancing will be practiced for all programs, including Mill Tours. This means we will be limiting the amount of people inside the Mill at once. We also ask that patrons bring masks, as they must be worn if entering the Mill or when in close proximity to other park patrons.

For more history at Little Buffalo, check out the historic Blue Ball Tavern, open on Sundays during the summer from 1-4pm, staff permitting. Contact the park office for details - 717-567-9255.
