Self-Guided: Raccoon Creek State Park BioBlitz 2021

What is it?

A BioBlitz is a community science event where people try to record as many species as possible in a certain amount of time. For the entire month of July, we’ll be holding a BioBlitz here at Raccoon Creek State Park! We encourage you to go out and find as many species of living things as possible. That includes flowers, trees, birds, insects, fungi, fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, ferns, spiders, moss, and any other living things you can find! This is a self-guided program, and may be done at your own leisure.

How do I participate?

First, you’ll need to make an account with iNaturalist. You can download the app or go to www.inaturalist.org to sign up. This is a site that allows people to upload photos or sound recordings of living things that they observe. Every time you upload a photo or sound to iNaturalist, it will ask you to mark its location. If an observation is marked within Raccoon Creek State Park during the month of July, it will automatically upload to the project “Raccoon Creek State Park BioBlitz 2021”. You can search for this project and look at what other people are finding in the park!

What if I still have questions?

If you want to know more about the project or have additional questions, feel free to contact Joe Franckiewicz at jfranckiew@pa.gov or call at 724.899.3611 ext. 4.

Happy searching!
