Salamander Safari
1450 Suedburg Road, Pine Grove, PA 17963, USA
Due to the threat of thunderstorms, this evening's Salamander Safari at Swatara State Park has been canceled. No need to be too disappointed though, you can join us next month for our Salamander Safari on Thursday, Aug. 22nd from 6pm-7:30pm at Trout Run Trailhead!
The cool wet area around Swatara’s creek is perfect salamander habitat! We’ll start the program by talking about these unique amphibians and what distinguishes them from other inhabitants our park, followed by a ½ hike to the creek to hunt along the forest floor and rocks to locate these illusive creatures. A limited number of nets and containers will be provided, so feel free to bring your own if you have them. Please also wear shoes that you are okay with getting wet! Meet at Trout Run Trailhead (40.482859,-76.545844).
All programs are subject to change due to weather or staffing shortages. Please check the DCNR Calendar of events or our Facebook page for cancellations or changes to programs. If you have concerns or require special accommodations, please reach out to us at least 72 hours prior to the event at 717-865-6470 or email us at qheist@pa.gov.
