Revolutionary Frontier - The Role of the Western Theater in the Quest for Independence
2951 Prospect Rd., Slippery Rock, PA 16057-5023
The upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence provides an opportunity to reflect upon Pennsylvania’s role in the Revolutionary War. While Valley Forge and the crossing of the Delaware commonly come to mind, the conflicts that occurred in what is now western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia are often overlooked.
Join Jennings staff at this free indoor program on Sunday, November 16 at 2 pm to discover more about how the war on this 18th century frontier is a powerful illustration of the struggle for freedom, not just for the American colonists, but for all of those who once lived in what is now Pennsylvania. It is understood that a quest for independence fostered the patriot movement, but it must be recognized that the attainment of freedom and independence were also sought by indigenous cultures, individual colonies, enslaved people and loyalist as well.
This presentation will illustrate the complicated quest that occurred in the backwoods of western Pennsylvania and how this quest changed borders, displaced cultures and reverberated internationally. Discover how some of the colorful characters and strategic locations live on through familiar local places and names. This program is free and no registration is required.
