Pumpkin Eggs: Thursday, October 3 OR Wednesday, October 23, 2019 (6-9pm)

$30 + $10 material fee to instructor

Each workshop participant will create a unique and beautiful egg ornament!

You will be guided through all the steps of transforming a plain egg into a work of art. Adult and/or teen students will learn the age old Ukrainian method of Pysanky, decorating eggshells. We will apply a series of melted beeswax and dyes to create traditional star patterns. When complete, the wax is melted off, revealing the vivid colors. Students will have the option of turning their Pysanky into a unique seasonal ornaments.

Materials (eggs, stylus, dyes, wax…) and instruction will be provided to make one or two Pysanky. Kits will also be available for purchase, so that students can continue to make Pysanky and wax-resist batik-style eggs at home, for all seasons and occasions.

Basia  has been writing Pysanky for over four decades, gathering in the kitchen during Lent to carry on the Ukrainian tradition.
She finds the creation process very soothing and meditative, and look forward to the moment of melting off the wax to reveal the design. She writes pysanky with traditional patterns, but also enjoys creating egg art with fresh interpretations and original designs (like my beach-inspired seashell patterns).

They make great gifts, especially to commemorate a birthday, anniversary, new home, or just to share with someone special.
