Nature’s Glow Photography Hike

3025 New Holland Road, Reading, PA 19607

If you’re a nature photographer (or an aspiring nature photographer) this program is for you! Join park staff and the Friends of Nolde Forest for an experimental evening of glow in the dark and/or night photography in the forest.

We’ll start with a short lesson on florescent objects, visible vs ultra violet light, and the science behind black lights. Then we will take a short hike without our camera gear while we explore what the forest looks like under UV light as we wait for the sun to go down.

Then you will have the chance to return to your cars to grab your equipment and spend about an hour photographing along the route we explored earlier. Your setup can be as simple or as complicated as you want. We will provide black light flashlights from the local home improvement store, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer a higher end version that emits less visible violet light.

Please note that this is a program for photography enthusiasts to come together for a unique photoshoot opportunity in the forest – this is not a photography class that will teach you how to use your camera or equipment. While we hope that everyone will share their ideas for setups and successes, all participants should already have an understanding of how to use their equipment. Since this is nature we don’t know exactly what we’ll find or exactly how to photograph it, but bring your camera and let’s all learn together!

Since this is a photography program, ALL participants must bring their own camera and camera gear (though cell phone cameras with a pro-mode setting certainly count). We ask that participants are comfortable navigating the trail in the dark, as use of full light flashlights will overexpose the photographs of the other participants. Because of the use of expensive equipment, we require ALL participants to be ages 16+ for this Adults Only program.

Registration is limited and the meeting spot will be sent to you in an email after you register. We will NOT be located near the parking lots or near running water, so please plan ahead.

**Due to the increasing popularity of our programming and the growing number of people on the waitlist for programs, we require a 24-hour cancellation notice for all programs. This will allow us time to reach out to other participants/families on the wait list and allow them to fill your spot. Individuals who repeatedly do not cancel before the program and who repeatedly do not show up to the program will be prohibited from signing up for future programs.**
