Nature Journals and Stories Homeschool and Afterschool Camp

3025 New Holland Road, Reading, PA 19607

Canceled due to lack of enrollment

Students ages 7 to 12 are invited to join the staff of Nolde Forest and the Yocum Institute for Arts Education in this program all about nature journaling and storytelling! Pick from our Homeschool Program from 9am to 11am or our afterschool camp from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

To start, students will learn the techniques of nature journaling as both a scientific and artistic tool. Students will receive their own journal to record their drawings and observations and then hike into the forest to practice their new journaling techniques.

After the hike, students will use their real life observations to create a fictional story based on their findings under the direction of Yocum staff. Students will record and illustrate their story in their nature journal and leave with both a fictional and non-fictional account of the day’s adventures.

Students will work independently and at their own pace for this drop off program, but due to the self-directed nature of the lesson students should have age appropriate skills in reading and writing to participate. Since we are offering multiple sessions of this program we ask that parents/caretakers return promptly at the end of the program to pick up their student.

There will be a snow date for this program on Monday, Feb 20. You will receive an email if we have to switch the date due to weather. This program costs $10.00 per student, paid in advance. Due to the popularity of our afterschool camp programs and a growing number of registrants who do not show up, there will be NO REFUNDS if you do not cancel your registration 48 hours before the program.
