National Public Lands Day Volunteer Event
2951 Prospect Rd., Slippery Rock, PA 16057-5023
Jennings Environmental Education Center is looking for volunteers to pitch in at the park in celebration of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 25 from 9 am – 1 pm. Volunteers will do trail work and other park improvement projects for approximately 2.5 hours, and then receive a lunch and commemorative t-shirt for their efforts! Participants must be age 12 or older and must register for the program by contacting the Center at 724-794-6011 or registering online (green register button) no later than September 15.
National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands American's enjoy. Last year over 113,000 volunteers nationwide built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants. Trail construction and rehabilitation will be the focus of the day at Jennings.
Due to COVID 19, the following plan is in place to allow for social distancing and safety:
- The entire event will take place outdoors, including the registration and introduction at the Prairie Pavilion.
- Individuals and groups may choose to work either in a MIXED group that may include others not in their family/group, or as an INDIVDUAL/POD, not mixed with strangers. NOTE: Registrants should indicate in their registration under “Additional Info” if they would like to be in a MIXED or INDIVIDUAL/POD group.
- We encourage all participants to wear masks when indoors (for example, when using restrooms), when social distance cannot be maintained, and when they feel more comfortable doing so.
- Individual boxed lunches will be provided, and groups can eat at socially distanced picnic tables throughout the park and in the pavilion or take their lunches home.
- Participants should bring their own water bottles and water, hand sanitizer, and work gloves if possible. Hand sanitizer will be available at the pavilion.
- All tools and sanitizing wipes will be provided.
- Restrooms with running water for handwashing will be open. Non-flush restrooms will also be available.
Jennings is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset for hiking and other environmentally related activities.
If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the park you plan to visit. With at least three days notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
