National Get Outdoors Day: Geocaching 101
2950 Pohopoco Dr., Lehighton, PA 18235-8905
Join the park naturalist for National Get Outdoors Day at Beltzville State Park, as we explore the unique and fun outdoor recreational activity called Geocaching. We’ll learn to use GPS devices to search for nearby temporary “practice” caches. A very limited number of GPS units are available to loan for this program, so participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own GPS unit, or a smartphone equipped with an app that can follow GPS coordinates. Participants should expect to cover about 1.5-miles during the program, over easy-to-moderate terrain. Participants should wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes, and bring water if desired.
We will be meeting at the Sawmill Run Trailhead off of Old Mill Road.
Directions from Beltzville State Park:
Turn left out of the park’s main entrance. Proceed past the Army Corps of Engineers building & go approximately 1 mile. Look for a Big Creek Grange sign on the left. Turn LEFT onto Grange Road. At the bottom of the hill, turn LEFT onto Old Mill Road. You will pass 3 houses on the left. After the last house, turn LEFT into the Sawmill Run Trail parking lot.
*Registration is required, as group size is limited. Please register each individual attending, separately.
*Rain will cancel the program
