Here at Keystone State Park, we're so excited about National Moth Week (July 23-31), we're getting started a month early!
Start at 8PM by meeting the park naturalist at the beach house. There she'll discuss the importance of moths in the ecosystem, the difference between moths and butterflies, and go over a few basic species.
From there, it's up to you guys! It'll be a count to see how many can be found in an hour's time. While there will be various stations set up that are meant to attract moths, you can search any part of the park.
We'll be using online tools to ID the moths and keep track of what is found. If you have a mobile device that either has Seek or iNaturalist downloaded onto it or the ability to do so, you will want to bring it. If you prefer the standard method of identifying, we will also have field guides on hand.
