Update: March 7th's moonlight paddle is cancelled due to excessive ice on the lake

BYOK – Bring your own kayak for a moonlight paddle! Kayak under a full moon, watch the stars and experience the night life on the lake! Bug spray is recommended, as are headlamps or lights with red light. A regular white light is required to be with you (though not recommended to keep on) when paddling. A cell phone does not count as a white light. Please  avoid excessive lights on kayaks—keep it simple. Glow sticks work nicely!
 

Location: Boat Launch Road—Main Boat Launch

Meet Time: We will begin to show up about an hour prior to launch. You must sign in before launching. Allow yourself plenty of time to get your boats in the water!
 

Weather Info: We WILL kayak on a cloudy night, we WILL NOT kayak on a stormy night! If you are unsure of the time/status of the event, please check our Facebook page or call the park office @ 717-567-9255. If you’re coming from a distance, you can leave your information with us for cancellation calls. 

PLEASE NOTE* This is NOT an intro to kayaking. You must have your own life jacket (and wear it!), whistle, & light. You must also be 18 years or older and have kayaked before. Night time is not the time to learn to kayak.

** Woodcock paddles are not centered around the full moon. Instead, we will begin kayaking towards the west end of the park during daylight and hopefully reach the upper pond just after sunset. We will then sit quietly and patiently and watch for the birds to come out! We will not be guaranteed to see birds. You will be asked to be quiet for woodcock paddles once we reach the pond as we need to minimize disturbance to the birds.
