March is typically maple sugaring season here at Parker Dam, but the process is very weather dependent—and as we have been experiencing, the weather can be fickle. Regardless, we will be covering how maple sugaring started, how the practice has changed over the years (and yet remained the same), and how the big producers make syrup, and how you can make it in your own back yard. From identifying maple trees in winter, to where and how to tap, to what you can use to gather the sap, and finally how to turn that fresh maple sap into pure maple syrup. Taste samples at the conclusion of the program.
