This year at Bald Eagle we are celebrating Earth Day by learning about our land’s heritage and natural history from local author Ron Rohrbaugh. Ron, already being a primitive skills enthusiast, expert outdoorsman, and Director of Conservation Science for the Mid-Atlantic Audubon, will be speaking about the extensive research he did to write his book; Echo: Living Wild with the Orions. Echo is a fictional novel for young people that follows the coming-of-age story of Echo, a young boy who grew up in the Pennsylvania Wilds and, to honor his family’s Native American traditions and mentor, Luna Woapalanne, tackles a solo adventure into the PA wilderness. During this speaking event fit for all ages, Ron will dive into the local history and Native American culture that provided the foundation for Echo’s story while also spotlighting his insightful, exciting, and nature-savvy book. Although Echo will not be for sale at this event, Ron will be reading a short excerpt from his book and may even sign copies of the novel if anyone wanted to bring their book from home.

Echo is the first book in the new LIVING WILD with the Orions series, which is designed to get kids interested in the outdoors, science, and history through storytelling.

The Orion family lives in the Pennsylvania Wilds, where they seek outdoor adventures and depend on the land for food and survival. Eleven-year-old Echo Orion is participating in a family tradition to become a “Sure Enough Mountain Man,” when things go horribly wrong. Will lessons from his backwoods, Native American Teacher be enough to keep him alive?
