Legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps: Company 1333- Camp S-63 Poe Valley
136 Poe Valley Park Circle, Coburn, PA 16832
We are proud to collaborate with Centre County Historical Society and William Marcum, a local historian and research authority on the Poe Valley CCC Camp, to bring you CCC Legacy Day once again.
ALL are invited to come out and learn about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and celebrate the accomplishments of Camp S-63 here at Poe Valley State Park. Enjoy a morning of presentations from local historians Bill Marcum, Paul Fagley, Jim Hyland, and Tom Hanes. Then sit back and enjoy the musical storytelling of folk guitarist Van Wagner! There will also be time for attendees to share their own personal CCC stories.
In the afternoon, get ready to experience the history first hand! Join us on exclusive field trips to the original camp site where the Officer's and Forester's cabins still stand, as well as the Watcher's Cabin where the fire tower once stood. Guided tours of these sites provided by Bill Marcum and Tome Hanes.
(Please note: You must have your own transportation to the sites. Directions will be provided, but transportation not provided by event organizers.)
This is a FREE, family friendly event, and donations are greatly appreciated to help offset expenses.
Lunch based on a period inspired menu served at Poe Valley will be available for event attendees. To anticipate the amount of food and guests, we do ask that you please RSVP for this event. To RSVP or for more information go to: CentreHistory.org/CCC
We hope to see you there!
