ve Director of the Hunterdon County (NJ) Cultural & Heritage Commission as
she examines the life of the women who followed the Continental Army during
the revolution. Through glimpses found in period references\, writings\,
and images\, this talk will explore the reasons why women left reasonably s
ecure situations for the uncertainty of following the army. It will describ
e some of the duties women performed and how they were compensated for them
once they were “on the rolls”. How has popular culture portrayed women in
this situation\, and how have those portrayals stood up to what the record
s reflect? If you’re interested in learning more about portraying an ancest
or for the upcoming Semiquincentennial\, this presentation will give you a
 place to begin.
