June Hiking Series at Little Buffalo
Want to learn some of the trails at Little Buffalo, or just looking to get out and meet some other hikers? Join us for several hikes throughout the month of June! We will look for unique wildlife at each hike, and we will record our observations on iNaturalist as part of our park's June Bio Blitz competition.
Bring comfortable hiking shoes for each hike. Some trails, such as the creek trail, can be extra muddy in places due to natural springs. Dress for the weather and bring bug spray, water, or snacks as needed.
June 4th - 4pm - Campground Spur Wildflower Walk - We will hike the Campground Spur and identify various wildflowers, lichens, and other unique plants. Around 0.5 mile, gentle downhill moderate hike, then 0.5 back up.
June 11th - 10am - Mill Race Birding Walk - We will go birding along the mill race trail, possibly adding the Blue Ball Tavern trail as well. Roughly 0.75 miles total, fairly easy hiking.
June 11th - 3:30pm - Buffalo Ridge History Hike - We will hike the Buffalo Ridge, one of the longer trails in the park. We will take our time and look for unique features, historic and natural, along the way. Around 1.5 miles out, then 1 mile back. Moderate hiking.
June 17th - 3:30pm - Creek Trail Water Life Hike - Come out and look for streamside wildlife as we explore the wetlands around the lake and follow the trail up along the ridge. Around 1 mile, moderate hiking.
June 24th - 10am - Exercise Trail Birding Hike - We will do some birding along the exercise trail and discuss bluebird conservation along the way.
June 24th - 4pm - Middle Ridge Wildlife Hike - We will end our hiking series with our most difficult trail, the Middle Ridge. 2.5 Miles in total length, then a walk along the road back adds another 1 mile to the total length.
