2021 Historic Gristmill Hours are from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM at McConnells Mill State Park.  The historic gristmill will be open to visitors Wednesdays through Saturdays and Holidays through the end of October. Free interpretive tours of the mill at 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.  Signs inside the Mill explain the machinary, its purpose, history, and may be photographed.  For special educational tours, contact the Park Office at 724-368-8811.  Come walk through and view the fascinating gears, pulleys, and milling machines preserved since the mill closed as a commercial milling business in the 1920’s. The mill ground grains such as wheat, corn, and buckwheat using waterpower from the Slippery Rock Creek. A water turbine harnesses the power of the creek to turn the machinery. Park at Kildoo Picnic Area, one mile south of 2716 McConnells Mill Road, Portersville, PA 16051 and walk down the stone stairs trail. Limited amount of ADA parking beside the mill. All current health guidelines will be followed. Admission is free.
