Goat-Powered Prairie Management: A Homeschool Experience
Healthy habitats are a must for plants and animals to survive. Join us on this immersive homeschool journey into the use of goats as a management tool in the unique and beautiful Jennings prairie.
Being the eastern most prairie in the United States, it is home to a variety of plants and animals. The prairie provides the perfect habitat for the endangered Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, but woody plants are always trying to sneak in and change it. Help is always needed to fight back these shrubs and trees and right now, Goats are the answer!
This program will explore the concept of a habitat, what habitat needs the animals in the prairie require, why we are using goats as a management tool and what impact are they making. Of course, we’ll get to meet the goats that are working hard to make sure our native plants and animals have a home.
This program is geared toward older children however, everyone is welcome. Please register by clicking the green button to the right or by calling the Center at 724-794-6011 no later than August 8. Cost $3.00/person (max. $12.00/family).
