DESCRIPTION:This event combines the annual "Cherry Pie Hike" and "Washingto
 n's Trail Hike." It commemorates George Washington's birthday and the Virg
 inia Colony mission demanding French withdrawal from British territory tha
 t precipitated the French and Indian/Seven Years War. \n\n \n\nThe day-lon
 g event will begin at 8:30 AM and end at 2:00 PM. It will feature 30-minut
 e history hikes\, where visitors can witness the 1753 musket shot that cou
 ld have changed history. There also will be informational presentations an
 d displays\, a reenactors' camp portraying wilderness life of the time per
 iod\, 45-minute winter nature walks (led by Jennings’ staff)\, and a 7-m
 ile hike along a section of the North Country Trail where Washington may h
 ave traveled. Participants can choose one or more favorite hike option and
  enjoy a taste of cherry pie\, courtesy of North Country Brewing Company.\
 n\n \n\nThe event is free and open to the public\, although a $2 per perso
 n donation will be encouraged for participation in the guided hikes/walks.
  Reservations are required for hikes and nature walks by February 23. Carp
 ooling is encouraged\, because parking may be limited. Sponsoring organiza
 tions are:  Butler Chapter of the North Country Trail Association (www.nor
 thcountrytrail.org/but)\, Washington's Trail 1753\, Harmony Museum\, Butle
 r County Tourism and Convention Bureau\, and Jennings Environmental Educat
 ion Center.  \n\n \n\nClick on the button to the right to register for the
  North Country Trail hike from 9:00 until approximately 1:00 PM\, (dependi
 ng on hiking speed). This long hike will cover 7 miles from the boat launc
 h located under the Route 528 bridge in Moraine State Park to Jennings. Re
 commended for ages 12 and up\, the hike is rated “moderate\,” and will
  traverse varied terrain\, with some slopes and winter trail conditions. *
 NOT suited for tennis shoes. Participants should park and meet under the 5
 28 bridge to begin the hike. They may hike back or return via shuttle. Cal
