From Riches to Rags to Riches: A Logging History Hike
10 Lower Pine Bottom Rd, Waterville, PA 17776
The Tiadaghton State Forest has a deep, rich history of logging, with evidence that is still scattered throughout the area. Fortunes made and lost, towns and mills built and abandoned, massive virgin timber stands annihilated to be sent to the cities for lumber, only to be replaced first by barren wastelands where fires roamed free, and now with the beautiful forest you see today.
Meet at the Tiadaghton Resource Management Center for an overview and interpretation of the logging history of the area, and then go on a moderate-to-difficult hike on the Log Slide Trail to see some of this history in person. Free program.
