The Fort Pitt Museum and Point State Park invite homeschool students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades to participate in a series of in-depth classes related to history and environmental studies. Classes will be both hands-on and minds-on, and will include reading and writing activities, student led discussions, and take-home assignments for students to continue their learning after class.
This is a drop-off program, but parents and families are welcome to stay on-site and visit the park and the museum during the program. Students will need to arrive at the Fort Pitt Museum no later than 1:00pm and be picked up at 3:00pm.
Cost is $10 per student per class.
This program will cover the style and structure of 18th century forts. Students will use the various models and images in the museum as inspiration to build their own model with provided materials. At the end of the class, students will test the strength of their models against "artillery rounds" during a quiz game based on information learned during class.
