Foliage and Sunset Hike

470 Vosburg Road, Tunkhannock, PA 18657

Registration is full.

Join the Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR) and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) on a free hike at the region’s newest state park. On Friday, Oct. 13, participants will hike along the Whitetail Trail and up the Vista Trail to see the autumn colors at their peak and catch a sunset at the overlook.

This short three-mile hike is ideal for hikers of all experience levels. Participants will also get to meet Vosburg Neck State Park’s new environmental education specialist, Amanda MacTarnaghan, who will be leading the trek with the EMHR. Along the trail, MacTarnaghan will educate participants about the history of the park. Hikers should wear appropriate footwear (hiking shoes or boots) and bring spare layers of clothing as it might get chilly this time of year. We insist those who are joining us also bring along a sufficient supply of water and a headlamp or flashlight, as we will be hiking back down from the vista after the sun sets. This sunset hike will be approximately three miles with an elevation gain of 300 feet to the vista.

Registrants should meet at the Vosburg Neck State Park red barn parking area by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 to check-in. We will take a tour of the property and then hike to the vista for the 6:30 p.m. sunset. The hike should end between 7 and 7:30 p.m.
