Join the park naturalist for a first day hike along the Buffalo Ridge Trail! The ridge trail is a moderate trail that climbs to the top of Buffalo Ridge and runs ~1.5 miles along the length of the park. It is a somewhat narrow and rocky trail, so sturdy hiking shoes are required. We will then return through the west day use area and hike back along the Fisherman's Trail, which is a little over a mile, for a total of over 2.5 miles. It could take anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete, depending on the speed of the hikers coming.
We will meet by the stage in the East Day Use area, also known as the Shoaff''s Mill Day Use. The GPS address is 91 Boat Launch Road, Newport PA, 17074. The approximate coordinates are 40°27'17.1"N 77°10'17.1"W.
Children and leashed pets are welcome, but the recommended age limit is 10 unless your young ones are avid hikers. Please keep in mind that first day hikes can be very busy, with over 80 people attending in the past.
