DCNR Calendar of Events

Family Summer Series

Every other Saturday, 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Join us as a family for this free program series. There will be two topics for each session with a short break in between – bring a snack for the break if you wish. You must have and wear a face mask in order to participate.  Space is limited and social distancing will be observed. In the case of inclement weather, the day’s program will be cancelled.

 

June 27, 2020:   Pollinators and Birdwatching
Learn about our major pollinators, dissect a flower, hunt for pollinators in our gardens, and take a birdwatching walk! Bring binoculars if you have them. We will have some binoculars available to borrow.

 

July 11, 2020:   Owls and Animal Traces
Learn about an owl’s amazing adaptations, dissect an owl pellet, and learn how we can determine what animals live in our forest using the evidence they leave behind.

 

July 25, 2020:  Insects: Terrestrial and Aquatic
What makes an insect, an insect? Investigate insects in 3 different habitats. Do we find the same insects in different areas? *Bring clothes and shoes suitable for getting wet.

 

August 8, 2020: Amphibians: Salamanders and Frogs
Amphibians have some unique adaptations for living in different environments. What frogs and salamanders live here in PA and what are the best habitats to search for them? *Bring clothes and shoes suitable for getting wet.

 

August 22, 2020: Leave No Trace Hiking and Survival Skills
Can you hike through the woods like Bigfoot – leaving no trace that you were there? Learn some best practices for traveling the woods, and practice survival skills, including how to start a fire.

 

Registration required. Limited space available. You may sign up for just one session, or all!
