Family Science Outside: Weather Wonders (Week 4: Sun and the Seasons)

2951 Prospect Rd., Slippery Rock, PA 16057-5023

Free Event

Family Science Outside: Weather Wonders brings at-home learners and their grown-ups into the living lab of the great outdoors! These weekly choose-your-own adventure style experiences are a perfect escape from screens, but also a real-world supplement to school studies (aligned with many area school curricula, and state and national standards).

Each week’s program includes:

  • Virtual introduction from Jennings staff, including guidance on using exploration tools
  • A loaner kit to aid in your family’s investigations, including items like weather instruments, measuring tools, and more
  • An investigation guide to complete together as a family while out and about exploring
  • Resources for continuing the explorations and learning at home

When? Week 4 – December 8, 9, or 10. Families/cooperative groups/”pods” can register for their own time slot each week. Time slots are available for one family/cooperative group/”pod” at a time (max 12 people/group) on Tuesday through Thursday  at 9, 10, 11, or 1 each day.

Who? Especially meant for families with children in grades 2-6, but siblings welcome.

What? With a new set of investigations each week, there’s always something different to explore – sign up for one time slot per week for as many weeks as you like. Activities are designed to last 1.5-2 hours.

  • Week 4, December 8-10: Sun and the Seasons – as we approach the winter solstice, learn to track the sun and the shifting seasonal change.

How? Registration is required for each week’s sessions by clicking the register button or by calling 724-794-6011. When registering, register a responsible adult, and provide names for participants and ages for children in the “Additional Info We Should Know” section.
