Family Science Outside: Weather Wonders (Week 2: Temperature Trials)

Family Science Outside: Weather Wonders brings at-home learners and their grown-ups into the living lab of the great outdoors!
During Week 2 Temperature Trials, discover how and why temperature changes throughout the day and over time, while learning to make measurements and predictions

These weekly choose-your-own adventure style experiences are a perfect escape from screens, but also a real-world supplement to school studies (aligned with many area school curricula, and state and national standards).

Each week’s program includes:

  • Activities with the Jennings staff, including introductory explorations and guidance on using exploration tools
  • A loaner kit to aid in your family’s investigations, including items like weather instruments, measuring tools, and more
  • An investigation guide to complete together as a family while out and about exploring
  • Resources for continuing the explorations and learning at home

When? Week 2 – November 9, 11, 14. Families/cooperative groups/”pods” can register for their own time slot each week. Time slots are available for one family/cooperative group/”pod” at a time (max 12 people/group)  at 9, 11, or 1 each day.

Who? Especially meant for families with children in grades 2-6, but siblings welcome.

What? With a new set of investigations each week, there’s always something different to explore – sign up for one time slot per week for as many weeks as you like. Activities are designed to last 1.5-2 hours.

How? Registration is required for each week’s sessions by clicking the register button or by calling 724-794-6011. When registering, register a responsible adult, and provide names for participants and ages for children in the “Additional Info We Should Know” section. Valid Driver’s License required for kit reservation.

The following COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place:

  • Masks: masks are strongly encouraged when indoors
  • Social Distancing: required between Jennings staff and participants
  • All materials will be thoroughly sanitized
  • All should practice thorough and frequent hand washing and sanitizing
  • We ask participants to stay home if they have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, or have been in contact with anyone who has been diagnosed or is experiencing symptoms.
