DiscoverE: Penn’s Adventurers in History - Summer Camp at Presque Isle State Park!
Students aged 10 to 12 years old are welcome to join us for a series of fun history-themed adventures in the park this summer! Campers will develop a sense of place, discover the rich local history of the area, and learn how park educators interpret the park’s historical resources. Through this experience, students will gain an appreciation for the dynamic interface between the stories of people and the unique coastal environment of Pennsylvania’s only “seashore.” Participants will make incredible memories with their peers as they:
· Explore Presque Isle Bay in a pontoon boat
· Meet historical characters
· Take a bike ride to Perry Monument
· Spend a day at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center
· Practice heritage skills with fishing and archery
· Investigate historic artifacts, old photos, and maps
· Search for discoveries while using Joe Root’s treasure map!
This three-day camp is a drop-off program. Parents and guardians must bring their kids to the starting location between 8:30 and 8:45 each morning and return to pick them up between 3:15 and 3:30 in the afternoon. The first two days will begin and end at the Rotary Pavilion next to Beach 7 (Waterworks), and the third day will begin and end at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center. Students must be able to bike 7 miles over the course of an afternoon to register, as we will be taking a loop around the main portion of the park on the second day. However, this distance will be split into two small segments, with at least one break as we visit numerous landmarks and fun spots along the trail. Students will need to bring packed lunches, refillable water bottles, and a backpack. We will provide a cooler, as well as morning and afternoon snacks. At the end of the program, students will receive special badges!
Limit 15 students. Registration and payment due by June 15, 2026. Payment must be received at The Public Safety Building/Ranger Station on Presque Isle State Park.
If you have questions, please feel free to call the park office at 814-833-7424 or email Andrew Sipple: asipple@pa.gov.
