Diggin' The Past Archaeology Day Camp

This summer, Greenwood Furnace State Park is again offering a unique opportunity for the public to participate in a real archaeological dig. During the week of June 24 to 28, 2019, “Diggin' The Past” Archaeology Day Camp will take place. The camp will run for one week, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 2 pm.  Camps are open to all who are 9 years old and up. Please remember that those 9 to 10 must have a parent, grandparent or other relative participate with them. Teachers can earn Act 48 credits as well. Contact the park for information on the course.

There is a $30.00 fee per person to participate, including parents/relatives who participate with their children. Contact the park at 814-667-1800 or by Email at greenwoodfurnacesp@pa.gov for an application. The camp is limited to 15 youth participants plus adults, so sign up now.

The Archaeology Day Camp offers historically minded young people and adults the opportunity to participate in an authentic archaeological dig at Greenwood Furnace. During the camp, participants will experience aspects of archaeology, from proper digging and removal of artifacts, to the cleaning of what is found. Participants just might be on the “front line” with an important new discovery about Greenwood Furnace.…you never know what may be found. During previous camps, many new discoveries were made enhancing the story of Greenwood Furnace.
