The Perseids are coming! The Perseid Meteor Shower can be observed any time during the month of August, but some of the best viewing will be on this weekend. As the Earth intersects with the orbit of dust particles left behind by the comet Swift-Tuttle, visitors will flock to Cherry Springs State Park for a view of the spectacular results.
Those interested in experiencing a more personalized, small group telescope tour of the night sky can join Jennie Lusk, Wild Asaph Outfitters’ Night Sky Guide, after the oral portion of the public park presentation for a private telescope tour of the night sky. The oral presentation will begin at 9PM, afterwards we will break off into a private group. Participants in this program will be guaranteed ample telescope time without long waits. Watch the meteors streak across the sky as you explore planets, nebulas, red giants, and more.
Dress so you are comfortable for the anticipated night temperatures. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on and red flashlight or small regular flashlight. (We can supply red cellophane to cover.)
Registration Required - Registration will close at 3pm 2 days prior to class (or when full). You may put your name on a waitlist if class is full. Class size is limited to only 15 seats. YOU MUST REGISTER INDIVIDUALLY!
Payment of $12.00 per person will be due upon arrival at the program by check or cash only.
The program will be cancelled in the event of rain, thunder or overcast skies.
