CCC Legacy Day

136 Poe Valley Park Circle, Coburn, PA 16832

Free Event

Join local historians and park staff for a day-long program about the Civilian Conservation Corps and learn about life in a CCC camp.

Start your day with a stroll along Poe Valley Lake and tour the earthen and masonry Poe Dam constructed by CCC Company 1333 Camp S-63. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy some time in the park prior to the start of presentations! Poe Dam and Poe Lake remain in service today, a testament of the work produced by the new deal era CCC camp located at Poe Valley State Park.

Lunch will not be provided, however the consessions stand will be available.

Visitors will be invited to share their personal CCC stories after a brief welcome to start the event. After stories are told, enjoy presentations by Bill Marcum, John Eastlake, and various park staff.

We also hope that you will visit the site where the camp was erected and tour the original officer’s quarters building at the end of the day.

A collection of memorabilia and tabletop displays will be on show for you to enjoy and we invite you to bring any mementos that you wish to share with others.

This is an event for everyone and all ages. CCC veterans, sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, nieces, nephews, extended family members, history buffs, local historians, are all encouraged to attend and bring your CCC stories, questions and step back in time!
