The CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) played a pivotal role in both French Creek and Hopewell Furnace. Without the CCC the parks may not be how they stand today. Establishment day marks the establishment of Hopewell furnace.

Join us for an 8.5-mile hike through French Creek State Park looking at all of the history the CCC left behind. We will be looking at structures and features throughout the park. Towards the end of the hike we will be entering Hopewell Furnace and join in with their Establishment day activities. Activities include charcoal burning and various demonstrations.

The hike is not a workout hike, but we will be going at a moderate pace throughout the trails. The trail system is rocky and hilly. We will be stopping for breaks and talks throughout the hike. The day will start with a brief PowerPoint overview at the park office at 8:30. Hike begins around 9.
