Bluebirds are a dramatic environmental success story. Thanks to the many people who install and tend nesting boxes nationwide, bluebird populations are growing. You can help bluebirds and other cavity-nesters by assisting with the cavity-nesting bird trail at Sinnemahoning State Park. Responsibilities include checking and cleaning boxes and recording information about what's happening at each box.
During this volunteer training, park staff will review the life cycle of bluebirds, chickadees and other cavity-nesters, go over nest and nestling identification, steps to checking and cleaning the boxes, and map of the trail. Please bring along a small calendar or personal agenda so we can discuss the schedule for the nestbox monitoring season. No obligation. Pre-registration requested. It’s fun to help bluebirds!
