Branching Out: Tree ID Basics

Trees are all around us - in fact, there are over 100 species found regularly in PA. But can you tell a spruce from a fir? How about a Norway maple from a Sugar Maple? Learn tips and tricks to ID'ing some of our common backyard trees using bark, leaves, and seeds and discover the diversity of trees around you. All trees identified will be added to our park’s Bio Blitz Competition, which runs through the end of June! We will meet at Pavilion 3 and walk throughout the Shoaff’s Mill Area.

All programs are subject to change due to weather or staffing shortages. Please check the DCNR Calendar of events or Facebook page for cancellations or changes to programs. Severe weather, such as snow, ice, storms, or heavy rains will cancel most programs. If you’d like, you can leave your number with us and we can notify you of changes. If you have concerns or require special accommodations, please reach out to us at least 72 hours prior to the event at 717-567-9255 or email us at Littlebuffsp@pa.gov.
