CANCELED!!! Birding by Ear for Beginners

Free Event

***This program has been CANCELED and RESCHEDULED for Saturday, June 26th. If you were already registered, please re-register for the new date.

Join park naturalist, and expert birder, Rob Bergstresser for an adventure in identifying the common breeding birds of Beltzville State Park, by their songs and calls. We’ll head out on an easy-to-moderate 2-mile loop around the Sawmill Trail, where participants will learn the basic methods, tips, and tricks for identifying the most common birds by ear, and understand why it can be challenging and fun. This is a fun auditory birding hike for beginners, as well as expert birders! Please wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes, and bring water if needed. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own binoculars, but a very limited amount are available for loan.

We will be meeting at the Sawmill Trailhead for this program.

Directions from Beltzville State Park:

Turn left out Park main entrance. Proceed past Army Corps of Engineers building & go approximately 1 mile. Look for a Big Creek Grange sign on left. Turn LEFT onto Grange Road. At bottom of hill, turn left onto Old Mill Road. You will pass 3 houses on left. After last house, turn left into Sawmill Run Parking lot.

Registration is REQUIRED, as group size is limited. Please register each individual attending, separately.

***PLEASE NOTE*** Masks/face coverings MUST be worn if you are unvaccinated. Vaccinated visitors are not required to wear masks outdoors, but ALL participants are expected to follow social distancing guidelines at all times. Participants should bring their own hand sanitizer.
